Default Anyone Recognize This?

Hey guys,
On the 67 project I picked up, the original drivetrain (289) was swapped for a 302 drive train out of a 1970 Mustang. One of the mods the previous owner's son did was the distributor, which has (for lack of a better term) and integral ignition coil. The guy I bought it from didn't know much about cars and couldn't tell me what this distributor is. A couple friends have said it's a GM, but weren't sure. I've looked for part numbers but don't see any, other than when I pop the cap off there's a part which says "Wells" on it. Can anyone please identify this?
Thanks,
Keith

It's a GM style HEI distributor. They are actually damned fine distributors but you will burn in hell if you use one on your Ford engine.

that is a factory ford dist . there is likely a p/n and date code on it somewhere but is definitely after 1973.

WELLS is an aftermarket parts supplier so it is meaningless for id purposes.

There were, are, companies that put GM HEI heads on Ford drives, and having a black cap I would suspect this is one. You can buy similar new for Ford off EBAY but they have red or blue caps and are probably a less quality build as they only cost about $40 to $60. If you get pinging, you may have to reduce the vacuum advance. If it is a GM head, it is probably pretty good quality, but as Fastback said, you may feel some heat.

Hi Guys,
As always thanks for the help. I had suspected it to be GM as a couple of my buddies said. Yeah.....it being front and center on my Mustang engine probably will not go over too well. If it is a Ford as fastbackford351 says.....that's cool. I think I'm going to have to yank it out to find some part numbers though as I went over it pretty thoroughly and couldn't find any.
This car is by no means original (like I said non stock drive train for starters) so while I'm not concerned about originality I do feel a little errrr about having a GM HEI on my ride.

.
to be more specific, it is a gm style but it is not a gm distributor that was modified to fit a ford . there are aftermarket distributors just like that for the fords.

There are several just like that on Amazon, for Fords, for roughly $55..
