Default Engine build question (New to this)

I have a bare 302 short block and want to rebuild however after moving several times all other parts were lost and now I don't know where to start, any help would be great.

Buy the parts you need, then rebuild it.

Several of the bigger houses have rebuild kits. that will be the best way for you to go I think. You can get everything from just the gasket set to a full rotating assembly, balanced with all the fasteners. Jegs, Summit both carry Eagle kits and Scat kits. The last full race engine I built I used an Eagle kit and it was spot on. I didn't even have to swap bearings to get my clearances right. After that its heads, intake etc...

Don't go overboard on the HP increase or you'll have to do more work to the chassis/driveline to handle the power.

Or just buy a crate engine and be done with it...sell the block for a few bux.

First, measure the bores and see if the block is able to be rebuilt. 289/302 blocks with standard bores are increasingly rare. If it measures okay, take it in for cleaning and magnafluxing to ensure there are no cracks. While there get an estimate for needed work - Cleaning, magnafluxing, boring, align-bore, freeze plugs, if a stroker notching, if making lots of power consider oil passage upgrades, decking, balancing, etc, etc.. consider that estimate against a new block and the needed parts. And consider that cost against a crate engine.
