Default 1970 - Ignition issue - key assembly stuck in column

Hoping someone might have a trick for me.

I'm trying to remove the "switch communicator interruptor" from my 1970 Mustang Grande -- and it won't come out. My key was stuck in the ignition...I got it free and wanted to replace the unit --- but can't get the old one out. I put the key back in, turned to the run position and depressed the little metal part...but nothing.

I've tried turning the key in every direction and depressing the tab...but nothing. It seems stuck. What am I doing wrong? I would appreciate any help you might have!

What am I doing wrong? Gotta be something...

the 70 key cylinder comes out a lot differently than other models. Here's a link to an article Jim Smart did in MM that shows how to do it.
