Default alternator wire size

I had a 100 amp single wire alt in my car. however, i added fuel injection, two electric fans, A/C, and a stereo. since then i have had charging issues.

today my alt melt down. the actual terminal on the Alt melted and fell out.

so i went ahead and bought a 140 am and am thinking to increase the wire size to the solenoid. what size wire should i have.

Im running similar power requirements. I use 4awg at about 1.5 foot..That should be suitable for 140A.

If you have to terminate the wire yourself I highly recommend soldering any crimped connections...You can accomplish this with a propane torch and lots of flux or a big *** electric soldering system. I made sure both terminals were well soldered after they were crimped...

It's wierd, I am running a 100amp tuff stuff single wire alternator and the damn thing melted down on me. It burned up on the inside. So bad in fact that the terminal that the wire bolts too melted and fell out of the alternator. The wire I had on there though was in good shape.
I was going to rebuild it but it doesn't look like the terminal comes with the rebuild kit. So I ordered a 140amp.

I have added FI, stereo with amp, and a/c so it may have been too much of a draw for it. Unless it was just a Chinese piece of ****

That's a problem with the alternator, not the wire. If the wire were too small, it would have overheated and melted the insulation, not anything inside the alternator.

My Powermaster 140A comes with a charging wire, and it's like a 6g iirc.
