Default Steering messed up

Turning in one direction is very difficult (like there is no power steering), turning in the other direction is easy but it's all 'squirelly' (it shoots back and forth and is difficult to keep straightened).
  1. What is the likely culprit causing this?
  2. What should I look for to confirm this?
  3. Can I drive it like this to get it into the mechanic? (about 5 miles)

thanks guys

My guess it the power steering valve, Its connected to the end of the draglink. It probably could be rebuilt. Driving 5 miles to the mechanic is probably okay but thats your call.

When did it last work right?
Did this occur all at once or did is slowly get worse?

Happened all at once so I was thinking something broke loose perhaps?

Could be. Check to make sure everything is connected proper under the car. If it looks okay its probably a PS valve.
