Default Horn unit hot to touch

Came out in the garage this morning and smelled that electrical burning smell, popped the hood and sniffed around, and moved my hand around until I identified the heat source. The left horn unit is too hot to touch, the right one is cool. I disconnected it immediately but is there possibly anything else going wrong or just a faulty unit. Yesterday when moving the car the horn came on when it bumped the threshold into the garage (just the vibration triggered it). Very odd.

does the horn that is left still work.

it also sounds like there is a problem with your horn ring. this is not uncommon. i would take it off and check out the pieces. the 3 prong plastic horn retainer sometimes gets a tab broken off which can cause the horn to go off over bumps etc.

Yeah the other one doesn't seem to work at all, I'm going to take your advice and replace the horn ring while replacing the horn unit

check the horn relay, could be an open circuit going to that horn...just building up heat.

an open circuit would not build up heat.

i didn't say to replace anything. find the problem first. also, disconnect the battery when removing and installing the chrome horn ring.

Did you replace the steering wheel? On some wheels, you need to remove a piece of the horn internal ring. The horn in these is fed from the horn ring, it is not grounded by the horn ring. The horn goes to ground the power is fed from the ring.
