help with engine block code 68 mustang
Hello, I am new to this forum. I just started working on a 68 coupe project car. From the door vin, this car originally had a 289 2v, but in the process of replacing the water pump I realized it had an engine change along the way. I found the engine block cast numbers under the starter in two lines:
D2OE 6015 AB
2EY
From what I have been able to find on the web, this looks like a 72 engine, but I would like to know if it is a 302, 351 or something else(?).
The intake manifold looks like the original since it has a cast number C82E prefix.
Any advice or web links to help figure out what kind of engine this is would be graetly appreciated!
thnx

Judging from the intake number ill assume its a 302. During the years when these engines wore out or blew, many went and snagged 302 out of more easily axcessable 70's vehilces becuase they were easier to come by. i cant be sure because im not 100% familar with 351's so ill go off assumption
One quick way of telling the difference between the 302 and the 351 is to look at the front of the engine. The 302 heads are just immediately above where the water pump mounts. The 351 has about an inch to an inch and one-half between where the water pump mounts and the heads. The 302 has about an 8 1/2 wide intake, and the 351 has near an 11. Of course the 351 has a longer stroke than the 302, but not visible from looking at the outside of the engine.
