Default Starting Issue with my 1968

Hoping someone could help me trouble shoot a starting issue I'm having. Basically I need to pour a bit of gas into carb to get it to fire up. If its run for awhile I can restart no problem, but if it sits over night or for a few hours doesn't seem to want to start without the gas poured in. Runs perfectly fine otherwise.

I replaced the fuel filter and it was pretty gummed up (this was just a maintenance thing, not that I thought it was the issue) . I'm going to check the fuel pump, and accelerator pump tonight to see if both are working fine. Anyone have any other suggestions on what might be the cause? thank you!

check the choke first and then the accelerator pump.
The choke should be closed 80% of the way about when cold. if you placed a pencil down the carb and closed the choke plate so it held the pencil...thats about the size of the gap you want.
