I have from what I can research a Carter AFB 9635sa Carb on my 68 Mustang, with 289 engine. It will start but the carb is not free, car was a barn find been sitting for 8-10 years. I was about to order a rebuild kit from summit racing and have it shipped to Canada, however there are a few things I am questioning; I have never rebuild a carb. I have tuned a few but my experience with carbs is fairly basic. I have a background as an aviation technician so I am fairly confident with some decent instructions I can accomplish this. I'd like to verify the model of carb and at what point I should buy the rebuild kit and whatever else I may need. It seems parts for this model are scarce and I don't want to throw money away on a rebuild kit if I find there are components needing replacement that are no longer available.
Also any idea what the 587 is? Maybe CFM? There are a few things already funky like a zip tie to lengthen the spring lol. I would really like to salvage this carb if possible as I am striving to teach my son about rebuilding card and a carb would be a great learning experience for both of us!
Its easy to rebuild
I dont know exactly about it but it ticks all the boxes for being identical to the edelbrock 1406 / afb clone.
It would almost certainly use this rebuild kit https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1477
it would likley be operational with cleaning and install of new rebuild kit.
