Default Battery Question

I have a 66 Mustang that I've owned since 2008. When I first got it, the battery would keep dying so I eventually started unplugging the negative terminal and it has lasted since about 2009 doing it that way.

Recently, I took it out and I forgot to take off the negative (my bad) and the battery was dead. I jumped it and drove for about 20 minutes, brought it back and parked it in the garage and took off the negative. I went to take it out last weekend and the battery was dead again.

Do you think the battery is now just bad? Should I look at getting a trickle charger? If I get a new battery, what type should I go with?

Thanks!
