I can't say for sure, been a lot of years since I had my 1965 with the three speed. But that one didn't have a reverse lock out and I can't imagine that Ford made many changes between 65 and 66

I keep reading about the top loader 3-speed having reverse lockout using a tab that between two of the arms. In '68 or '69 they went to a cable system again according to other sources. My shifter does not have this tab so I don;t know if in the past 50+ years it was rtemoved or it never had it. i can see why it would have one. the shift from 1st to 2nd if you didnt make the right turn you would go right into reverse or at least grind the gears down....
