Question Stereo Speakers

First of all i own a 1965 Mustang Convertible that I have a after market Custom Autosound USA-230 stereo installed & my problem is the speakers. I have the one speaker that came with the unit that is installed in the dash & I want to install a couple more speakers to it. but when i hook up the speakers they sound distorted and/or you can hardly hear any sound out of them. Why is this?????
Btw I tested all speaker wires with the original speaker & normal sound came out of that speaker. I also tested my new speakers{ that i want to install} in a different stereo & they sound great. So what could be the problem since its not the speaker wires or the connections or the new speakers. The only thing I can think of is you have to have only use their { Custom Autosound USA-230} speakers.
