beat me to it. ive only ever heard of grande being associated with coupes. in which case would mean fastbacks wernt effected by this "grande option"....(option...HA! as if its a good thing or something....)

maybe there was fastbacks with vinyl tops...but for some reason i doubt it. And a grande curse was never unleashed on a fastback.

i just cant get over how ugly those early 70's coupes were...i love the fastbacks...but the coupe..... [:'(]

you cant believe every thing you read... just because a book says there is no such thing doesnt mean it doesnt exist.. if production numbers on a car are low enough, the company usually will not put it into its own catagory. Indeed there are grande fastbacks around, just not many of them, the reason i believe there arent is becuase the grande package was just as much as a bone stock no option mach 1.... so of course many didnt want it. My good friend owns a one of one X code (390 2v) high country speacial, however Ford never lists ever making one, but it does exsist. so believe what you want, i dont sit around making this s@#t up

Also remember the dealers performed mods on the cars back in those days also. The dealers would swap out carbs and manifolds and sometimes rears to have a hotter car to show..

exactly, a lot of dealers did, thats why a lot of the cars are hard to track the numbers on. im not trying to be an ***, but i like to argue the point to far sometimes.

Anybody want a beer while I'm up? Is a hardtop considered a coupe? If so, is a grande also considered a hardtop? According to production in 1969, there were hardtops (65A) then there were grandes (65E) If a hardtop is the same as a coupe, as I understand it to be, then where is the evidence that any grande was ever a fastback? Here is the typical 1969 Grande. And yeah many of them had vinyl roof coverings as evidenced by this picture, and possibly some fastbacks had vinyl roof covers. But, there is no evidence on the internet to prove that any fastback came from the factory with a vinyl roof as an option. The Grande coupe (hardtop) was the luxury line of Mustangs in 1969, so did offer that luxury item as an option. But, I have yet two locate any evidence that a fastback had the vinyl top as an option. So, I change my position and statement earlier that all models came with that option in 1969. Yes, we all agree it could have been added later either by a dealer or by an individual, but it was not a factory option.

You will most likely follow the same line of research that I have done, and my conclusion is that there are no factory produced 1969 Mustang fastbacks with vinyl roofs as an option.

I'll bet there are no factory vinyl topped 69's with a 63A or 63C body code, that is, sportsroof/fastback. I'm glad Soaring came about the right way.
So like I said originally, Beware! Run fast and run far, but do not buy that car thinking it is something other than an abomination...

Oh, I have to disagree, my 70 coupe is not that ugly! [sm=boosign.gif]. Of course, I prefer fastbacks too, but, let's say, they are pretty tough to find in my city.

I think all classic Mustangs are Purdy. If any of you have an ugly early 70's Mustang you want to give away because it is too ugly, let me know.
