did they come with vinyl roofs on the fastbacks, or is this car hiding something?? hhmmmm? Can somone tell me before I drive to Texas...

actually not true, some fastbacks in 1969-1973 did come with vinal tops. They offerend them with the grande package, and was a option if desired (altough i dont see why) i have seen a 69 grande fastback, white with a black vinal top, and i know thats how it came because it was the original owner with a butt load of picks from when he bought it in 69.

 

Yeah, it was an option for all models, but a poor choice for an option IMO. Just something to catch moisture and rust the top. But, I guess they didn't expect them to last this long.

Not true. I have seen a couple with vinyl on a fastback. It looks really odd, but some did come with it original.

 

A grande is not a fastback, it's a coupe IIRC.

 

You do remember correctly. I can't speak for 70-73 cars but for 69's, the Grande package was only available on coupes. Vinyl tops were only available on coupes also. It was an $84.25 option. This according to the Jim Osborne reprint of Ford 69' Mustang illustrated facts and specifications manual.
