I used semi flat black and did the underside myself. As for POR for the the floor pans there is Central GA mustangs here that takes Undercoating to the floor pans. The guys theory is that it protects them and isulates them against sound. It was the first I heard of it.

IMO when i redid the whole underside of my car, i first did a chemical strip to the entire thing, and became friends with a dye grinder (hands and all) it took about a month to scrap and grind to a bare metal finish but once i prep the metal with ppg metal prep, i sparyed rustoleum to the whole thing, than three coats of clear, followed by 5 coats of red oxide. the biggest thing is to make sure the tack welds are completely covered, because they rust the quikest. as for the engine compartment i suggest going to NPD for the correct semi gloss paint. they IMO have the best matching factory paint to date, and i did my engine comaprtment in it and looks perfect. i think all in all expect to pay about 150 bucks for paint for the whole car, remember the more coats of paint the better
thanks guys. I already looked up the paint on NPD, and I may soon be ordering that. I' leave the flat black on as a primer so that the green/teal doesnt come back through. As for the floor, i saw NPD has Red Oxide also so i plan to order that too and eventually get around to painting that. thanks again guys
I also will need to redo the underside of my car next Spring, what is and where can I get this seam seal? Why use this Red Oxide. Is it somehting special. I am fairly new to the restoring part of this, my brother always does this.
red oxide isnt special but it does IMO a better job at protecting raw metal against rust, if applied right. You can get seam sealer at Eastwood, but is used for gas tanks, and cowls. The undersides on these cars can be protected very well if you use the prossess i talked about earlier. Dont be afraid to put a lot of rust-oleum under your car, the more the better. Construstion companies use rustoleum for the i-beam welds so they dont rust, so if it hold multiple storys up, i think it can hold a little water(thats its purpose) after the rust oleum i sugest a high tempature clear coat (duplicolor makes 500 degree) so the paint wont fade or peel from exhaust temps, and finally get as many of the cans of ,black, red oxide, gi joe green you can get and spray generously. (NOTE: red oxide is for 1965-1970 san jose cars, black was dearborn; GI joe green was 71 and up) sorry concourse note couldnt help myself
but whatever tickels your fancey, just remember, doing something to the underside is better than leaving all that old undercoating on and making a little problem a big one

No, son....Seam seal is not only used for gas tanks and cowels. It is used for every seam you want to seal, therefore the name "seam seal." It works perfectly on the floor pans to seal those seams, before applying the red oxide and paint.

I noticed in some of the post everyone is saying go for the flat black in the engine bay. Is there a problem if I use a gloss black?
