Default door support

hi,
i had seen that for convertible door jambs people weld in metal to keep everything straight. is this necessary on a coupe? im replacing complete left front and rear frame rails and torque box, passenger side frontmost 29" of front frame and the back 1/2 of the rear frame rail, along with the trunk floor, floor supports and passenger side shock tower. basically the new floor boards were the only decent part of this car when i got it.
i was just checking to see if this would be necessary if i only go piece by piece and dont remove all of the rusted parts i mentioned at once.
thanks,
carl

Can you post some pics to give us a more visual picture of what you are talking about replacing?

Great shots and detail as to what needs to be replaced. I would clean up everything to see if it really needs to be replaced, such as the passenger side shock tower. The rest of it definitely needs replacing, but I would take it one piece at a time. That way, you may save the integrity of the alignment of the front clip. Before you start cutting and replacing, take some acdurate measurements, then take a break and take those measurements again. Wait until the next day, then take those measurements again.

i was going to try and save the shock tower, but it is cracked all the way across the bottom. this car will be driven pretty hard when i get it done and i dont trust my skills to weld it back together. all the new metal is my christmas present this year lol. the stuff is pretty cheap when you do the work yourself.

OK, yeah, if the shock tower is rusted that badly at the bottom, then it definitely needs replacing as well. If you are planning to driving it hard, then you definitely need to replace all those parts, and maybe some more. The front rails need a lot of attention since they are the main support for the front end. The rad support bracket is not so important regarding the engine support, but definitely needs some attention if not a complete replacement. While you have the welder hot, you may as well add some frame rail connectors, and beef up the torque boxes.
