if your going to have clearance problems and you have a little space around house i would look into one of those aliminum "tent" garage type things....my dads friend had a clearance problem for his lift so isntead of busting out the attic he just got one of those little places, poured contrete and built the structure on the concrete stuff and put the lift in that instead of having to bust out a ceiling. He sort of put it on like cement blocks...like the outside...and cemented it in ....its hard to explain. Apparently it wasnt that ridiculously expensive but i dont know the price he got it for so maybe it was cheap to him but expensive to others. Anyways...just an idea....

Within a year or so, my plans are to build a pole barn. I have an extra lot next to my house that I can build one on. I'll just need to get clearance from the city council, then start building. That's a little far down the road to actually start making blue prints, but I have it in the back of my mind to build about a 24X48 shop with a 12 foot ceiling over the lift. That should give me enough room for work benches, tool chests, welder, etc. What do you guys think about the size?

Soaring,

I built a 30 X 40 SHop with 16' side walls, giving me a second floor for storage. I included an office, full bath, dedicated work bay and parts room in 15X20 area and the other 15X20 area is accessable form a 12 foot roll-up door. I tell you this, becasue now I wish I would have built a 50X 50. I am already busting at the seams. In my original plans I layed it out to expand to lenght as far as I need to.

THe area where the roll up door is located is where I want to put up my lift.

Just a little food for thought.

My brother and I built this monster a few summers ago, and it would just be too big for a work shop for me. We built this mainly to store my two Mustangs, his 5th wheeler, and all the tools and parts. It is a 40X50 and more than adequate for his needs. I just want a separate shop not much bigger than my 2 car garage where I dan put an extended cab pickup in it and still shut the door......plus have a lift and work benches, etc. Albeit, the 5er and the other Mustang are not in it with the second pic, it gives you an idea of just how big a 40X50 building is. 50X50 would be enormous.
