Default C4 Trans Downshift Problem

Hi everyone, just joined the group and hope someone out there can help me with a trans problem. I just installed a B&M shift kit in a 1968 Mustang (289, C4 trans). After putting the valve body back in the trans and buttoning it up, I discovered that the trans will not downshift from 3-2. No problem upshifting through the gears, but it will not downshift upon heavy acceleration. I suspect the problem is the downshift lever, which may not be properly positioned in the valve body. I can find no directions either in the factory shop manual or in the B&M kit, other than a general statement about being sure the downshift lever does not bind. Anyone have any ideas? No other areas of the car were disturbed during the shift kit installation (throttle linakge, etc.). I am baffled.

Sounds like you are having better luck with your shift kit attempt than my first and only attempt. I put a kit in a 69 Galaxie XL made it 1/2 mile down the road and no more forward gears. I would pull the valve body and make sure all the check ***** are where they belong. I doubt its the kick down lever since it up shifts ok.

Problem solved! A local transmission shop was kind enough to provide some help identifying the problem. The downshift lever going into the vavle body was NOT correctly installed. I now have the info needed to make this work!
