Default Dimming headlights

My headlights and interior lights dim/flicker at low rpm's. I understand that I can replace the voltage regulator OR put a smaller pulley on the alternator OR both to fix the problem

anyone faced this problem and have any other or better suggestions?

i have direct wired a msd box so i understand the resistor is 'bypassed' [dont know if that matters].

thanks for the help!

Going to an electronic voltage regulator will do the trick. I finally picked one up from ebay for $8.00. Works excellent. The smaller pulley will not change the flickering, unless you run an incredibly small pulley, then you'd have to deal the stress this places on the front bearing and the belt.
Another option is to go with a single wire alternator. This allows you to remove the old regulator completely, and clean up the wiring. You can also upgrade to a higher amperage at the same time, incase you want to run brighter lights, big stereo, electric fuel pump, ect.
Of course you are changing the "old world charm and character of the car" when you eliminate the flickering .

where can i get an electronic voltage regulator? One of the local parts stores I presume, but w your purchase from ebay it made me wonder.

Also, any suggestions of how to make the 'back lighting' of the dash brighter???

thanks for your reply!

A good autoparts store will have one, or go to the automotive section of ebay, and do a search. As far as pedals go, I saw a set on ebay just the other day. Not sure if they are still up for bid or not. Worth checking into.

Good luck,
