Default 73 Stang/changing seats?

[Hey. I'm want to switch out the front seats on my 73 stang here... I want to put in some seats that i can actually recline. Is there any make/model car that will bolt right in? Or should i buy after market racing seats and install them? I figure someone has switched them out along the line and may have some info/suggestions... Well thx guys, I'll get some pics on here soon so you guys can see my project

Go to a junkyard that will let you walk thru and look. If you can find a set that is comfortable and has a 4 point mounting system, you can swap them in with a little work. Many new cars today, even pedestrian crapboxes have nice seats, well nicer than some older cars. Look in 2 door cars unless you dont want to use the backseat again, the seats wont fold forward so you can get back there. Get them recovered in a pattern/color/material you like and it will usually cost less than a set of ricer type "racing" seats.

What if i bought new seats and used the same rails and brackets? I know if the holes don't line up it's time to drill and plug.. i have no problem doing that. My drivers seat is a noticeable 4 to 5 inches reclined.. compared to the passenger seat which looks like 3/4 ' slate straight up and down. there's a junkyard i can hit up in a few days after the holiday passes. If anyone has bought after market racing seats let me know. I'm just curious how much of a pain in the *** they are to install.

Check the 69-70 Torinos. They had very nice seats and if I remember, they bolted right into my 67 mustang.

I have glass buckets in the race car, but you really dont want those for much more than down the track and back. Most likely you will have to make mounts if you buy a set, most cases its the same with junkyard seats. The difference is price, since most junk yards only charge alot for power tracks, and they throw away cusions and such.

Getting prices to redo my interior that i have right now. Then I'll decide if it's worth the hassle of changing the seats out or not.. I JUST WISH THEY"D RECLINE A LITTLE!!!!!

Just as an FYi....Ford seats have used the same spacing since the 60s. What that means is you can basically walk up to any 2 door ford you find, unbolt the seat from that car, swap you original seat tracks to the bottom using the same bolt spacing the old seat had (ussually means drilling one hole on each side) and then bolt the seat in. Late 90s or so Ford went to non-flat bases so to use those seats it is still basically the same proceedure you just need to make a little spacer to get them to sit right...I made my spacers out of grade 8 hardware and the 2001 Bullitts bolted right in.

Now thats some good info right there.. I dont care who you are, thats good info...

Maybe the 71 will get some newer seats, would go well with the other ideas I have for it.. Thanks!

Take a look at the seats that are in the chart. There's a link you can click on to see what some of them look like.
I'd like to have more entries in this database if anyone has time to put their data in there. A pic isn't required to make an entry....
