I need to buy a new distributor for my 289. Has anyone used the HEI unit with the built in coil. I have a curved monte carlo bar and wondered if the larger cap would fit. The other one I looked at used a external coil with a pertronx inside. Any sugestions or advice?

I have the HEI and heard it DOES and DOESN'T fit with the curved Monte Carlo bar. I think you can get it to fit but it will be tight and you may have to move it (the bar) forward just a bit. I have seen pictures with the HEI and a curved MC bar but I didn't actually talk to the guy who did it. I would definitely go with the HEI. I love it...nice addition to my car. Check around on the price....it varies ALOT from what I remember....and if you buy it off Ebay definitely get a shipping quote cause I got screwed a little on that.

I had the pertronix in a 73 with a 351C. I just went to a MSD Distributor and a blaster coil. I would suggest that you definitely go with a stronger Distributor if you have made any mods.

I am going with a Procomp Dist., coil and box. I also have the curved bar. Have not dropped the engine in yet, but will post when I do. I go my Procomp on Ebay compelte from a dealer in Fl for about $250. it included the box, coil and dist. I though it was a pretty good buy. They make a good product from what I have read.

I was looking at the procomp also they have one PC7002 which needs a external coil but has the smaller cap. Let me know how yours fits.

hutch

Valid point. I am trying to keep the engine looking like something you wouldsee in one in the sixtys. I think ill go with the small cap style and external coil. Now how do i disguise those alum heads
