Default Spark at engine ground connection

Just replaced plugs and wires on this I6. Also set the timing and she seems to be running much better. However, whenever we start the car, a spark shoots off of the engine to battery negative ground connection!!! What's that about? Don't want my son driving this vehicle to school tomorrow with sparks flying under the hood...

Are all the cables tightened down? A spark means that electricity is having to jump a slight distance to make the connection.

And no, especially with these old cars you dont want sparks flying under the hood.

Are you saying it jumps all the way from the engine block to the battery??

6mustang6...Lordy, no!! Just spark at the block where the battery ground is connected to it.

Checked the connections. The bolt to the block is solid and rusted and won't budge. The ground eye to the bolt was somewhat loose. I was able to encourage the eye of the ground to tighten by moving it along with a hammer so it is making a good connection now without any spark. Thanx nualln for the advice...guess I will have to check the connection occassionally to make sure the eye ground to bolt is tight....

I would run another ground. Bad grounds can cause other problems, like not charging properly! Your son could get stranded.

Yep...I think you're right. Running another ground would be relatively simple and reduce the chances of more probs in the future. Thanx for everyones input on this...
