Difference In years?
Is there a list of some sort that I can get that tells how to determin the year between 64 1/2 -66 and the difference of 67 and 68? I know the big difference between 66 and 67 is the back side but other than that im in the dark of telling the difference between the years.. (ive been told that there are differences in the front grill but I havent seen any other front grills than my 66 so I dont know for sure) anyway any help would be great.
The way I tell on the fronts are what I call the "gills" (just cause they kinda look like gills) that are a few inches inward from the headlights on the 65s and 66s. The vents right behind the door on the 67 are also different from 65-66
The mustangs built between March 64 and August 17, 1964 had generators, and are considered to be 64 1/2 to early 65 mustangs. The late 65 mustangs and on had alternators. The 66 had a redesigned pony in the grill, different gas cap, hood and rocker moulding. The 67 is actally longer and wider, the grill opening longer, with the taillight panel concave. The fastback became a full fastback in 67, all three models in 67 had the side scoops, and the hood was different - had two vents sort of in it.

As for listing all the differences in the years of first-generation mustangs - it would almost be too much to take in. Your best bet is to buy yourself a good coffee table book. Take a trip to your local Barnes&Noble and see what they have. There are plenty of large, full-color books that lay out the differences from year to year.
In a nut shell, 64.5/65/66 are very similar; 67/68 are nearly identical; 69/70 share many of the same parts; and 71/72/73 are typically grouped together. 1964.5 - 1973 are generally considered the "classic" years.
wow, i think everyone already coverd it all... lol another thing that sets the 67 and 68's apart is marker lights. 67 had none. the 68's built before 2/16/68 had indents for marker lights. these lights were a rectangular shape. in an effort to cut cost, ford did away with the indent, and put the cougar marker lights on the 68's only had them on the quarter panels
here is a pic of my 68 before i got started on it.
as you can see, it has the pre 2/16/68 marker lights
here is a pic of a post 2/16/68 with the cougar marker lights

a couple differences between 67/68 would be the marking lights on the front fenders. also (not sure about convertibles though) the 67 only had a front torque box on the drivers side. in 68 they were on both sides...
