Calling a basic 302 a Boss302 is way too common a mistake...why would there be a Boss in 72? I too, think the newbie is on drugs.

In his other post "engine code" he didn't mention the year, only that it has eight bolt valve covers. I missed the "72" in this post. It's most likely a 351C.

Your exaust manifolds will not work on the 302 if it is a Boss or a 351c. It would be nice to see some pics of the engine you are pulling! I have a 73 Mach that had a blown 351c, I am putting a 351w in tonight. So far, so good!

Mostly heads and pistons are the difference. Boss302's and 351C 4V's use the same head (for the most part) if it doesnt have exhaust ports that are 3" tall, and 2" wide (roughly) and a number 4 cast into the head front and rear between the intake and valve cover, its not a Boss 302.

The circle has a 2 in it designating this as a 2V Cleveland. A Boss302 would have a 4 there. Also the exhaust ports are square on the top and protrude from the head, sticking out past the valve cover. On a Windsor type head the ports are relatively flush with the head and pretty much in a straight line with the valve cover. Ie the pic of just a head.

Almost forgot, the Windsors have wedge heads, so the valves are all in a line. A Clevaland/Boss302 has the valves at splayed angles. The intake valve is angled toward the intake manifold and the exhaust valve is angled toward the exhaust port. There is a huge difference in the two types of head.

Just information, not sayin the guy doesnt have one. If he does, I have a 351W just sittin here waiting for a rebuild. Even trade and I will come get it.

Mounts look the same between 302 and 351, at least the ones I have sittin on the floor of the shop.

I guess you are correct about newbie afterall, but now you must be on drugs. The boss was only made in 69 and 70, not 72!

i was under the impression that 72 was the last year for the boss. and they lowerd the compression and power in 71 and agin in 72.
