Hello everyone, I just got finished up hitting my tranny with a wire wheel and it came out pretty good. Nice and shinny. I really want to paint a black color with a slight blue tint to it. I heard that painting a tranny can insulate it and not allow for proper cooling. The tranny is a c4 and im soon going to have a new radiator with a transcooler. will i meed to worry about my tranny seizing up? I also noticed that on the bellhousing one of the hole where the dust shield goes into cracked off leaving a little half moon. Can i leave this or do i need to shell out money for a new one. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thnaks

Here is something to think about; most of the aftermarket performance transmissions come painted. So I would paint it if you wish.

I work for a company that remanufactures transmission for GM, Ford, Mopar, Mazda, Etc. We paint every transmission as required by our customers. I own a car with a C4 and it is painted. Not to worry.

 

I just got through putting in a rebuilt automatic in my 90 model Ford XLT Lariat, and it came painted black from the remanufacturer company. Like as has been said,....cooling of the tranny comes from within......
