Default 1967 engine help

hi i recently bought a 1967 ford mustang coupe with a 289 engine. id like to replace that engine with something better looking and more chrome and possiably with some more horsepower. im completely new and oblivious to this so any suggestions would help. id like to put in a nice new engine with lots of chrome and have some more horsepower that is street legal. can someone give me some suggested engines that that might fit in the engine space and or some recommended engines i should have put it. anything would help. i dont think you realize what you got. a 289 is a killer motor. defintley the best small block ford ever produced. with what you are going to put in a new motor, you can rebuild, and re-paint the block. get you some shiney valve covers/water pump/ air cleaner.

but, if you dont want the 289, ill take it off you hands

289s are pretty good, i dunno if its the best but i personally love my 351W, i always hads a thing for the big blocks though. but in your case i'd just get some chrome parts for the 289, air cleaner, water pump, ign coil, valve covers, and then put some nice high performance parts in. if you have the money for a new engine just get a new pair of cylinder heads, a nice 500cfm carb, and a new camshaft and boom, some serious change. new look, new tone, new horsies. the cylinder heads are probably the biggest money concern, you can still modify the engine a lot without needing to replace them. also think about roller rockers, i dont know a lot about them but someone here can probably tell you if they're gonna help give you the horses you want

If I were to take out my 289 and replace it with another engine, I think I would go with a 302 5.0L HiPo with aluminum heads. But, as has been noted, that 289 can produce as much Hp as you want for a street car. Some nice aluminum heads at about a grand, a good breathable intake like a weiand, a good 4 bbl carb, some good headers and a good breathing dual exhaust will make you smile. Lick your chops at this crate engine. It's a 302 with aluminum heads, and produces around 360 rwhp.

grrrrr...hey baby, oh...uhhh...ya, if you really want a new engine try a 302/5.0L. If you really want to maximize the power of a 302, look into a fuel injection system. I saw in a mustang magazine, forgot which one, they took a fuel injection system out of a late model 5.0 and installed it into an older model. required a lot of modding though. Or look into one of those high performance ones by Edelbrock and other companies out there.

ok im not sure how much work u want to do or how much u want to learn, but i would go with a 347ci block. look in summitracing.com

all it is, is a 302 block that has been stroked out (whitch means they took a 302 block and put a differant crank and smaller coneting rods wich makes it more ci). then you can put our own heads and every thing else...[sm=gears.gif]

You may be right Mike. But, we tend to answer any and all questions not thinking we are being yanked around. What purpose would that serve?

Yeah, i'm keeping my original 289. Im thinking about putting in a 306 stroker. you can go up to a 347 stroker with a 289 too. but, 306 is the largest you can go, without having the block notched. Then, some aftermarket heads, cam, etc. i believe it'll be pushing 300 ponies. If not, i'll be disappointed. Then when im rich, ill put on a paxton supercharger. Bam, easily pushing 400 ponies, if the engine is built and tuned right. Somebody tell me, if im just dreaming, and it will never happen or can it?
