Default Winter oil?

I haven't had old yeller out in the cold winter air in a bunch of years, so was wondering if running a different weight and viscosity of oil is recommended. I've got 10-40 in it now.

That is fine, especially if it is synthetic.

He lives in Texas. If he were up North where it stays below freezing, I might think about it.

Purchasing my 66 I6 this summer, I wondered about oil, too. I took it right to the guys at the local shop to address several things and they recommended 5W30 with the rationale that people were using that weight in northern climates with Ford sixes when it was new. I'm a May 1 to Nov 1 driver, 2m a year at most, in Minn, so I expected 10/30 to be the better choice, with 5/30 for storage cuz I start it once a month on 35 degree days. Thoughts on oil for my situation?

(BTW, Glen noted when I changed my thermostat that this engine would run good at 190 but 180 would be okay, and others agreed, especially in summer...that might have been the better choice cuz it's running really cool with the 180 based on the gauge...just makes it into the continuous line, not even up to one-fourth the way...is the gauge a reasonable indicator? does that influence oil weight choice?)

Not sure about the oil weight choice, so that is why I was asking. The gauges on these old cars are iffy at best, so if it isn't boiling over, then you have no heating problem. Nah, in Texas, we see freezing a few times during the winter months, but normally it is above that. So, I suppose my 10-40 will suffice year round.
