CAMS
Ok, I want to buy a cam. I have one picked out that has an Advertised Duration 266/266 and a Lift .469/.469. Is this ok for a 289? Do i have to mess with my rocker arms, or springs or anything?
thats pretty good cam swap, but i have question for you are you running any other modifications? carb?intake manifold? cause if you run cams with out carb and intake, you car will act funny really. as for the valve springs, i suggest replacement, i'd recommend buying a cam kit, which comes with the vavle springs, timing chain, seats, except for the rocker arms, you can test ur springs to see if they are within specs but i'd think it would be to much stress on the valve springs if your running the original ones, as for the rocker arms i'd upgrade. You dont want to install anyting that will make your car will bog will make you car making no power. i'd go to summitracing.com and ask questions about your engine, just write the questions, and give your info on engine like specs, carb cfm etc, so they could help you more.
the duration and lift will work for your 289, however the larger the lift the more fuel the motor will need. Keep in mind once you throw the new cam in, depending on the amount of extreme you go with, you will need to adjust the timing, and if thats if you go with a higher lift cam, you will need to possibly get a larger carb. But the specs your showing will be aliright, the duration is pretty close to stock, and im not too sure but the lift may be a little longer than stock
