What if.......
if you buy the 67 for $200, see if they will hook you up with a non salvage title, makes them worth more that way. Some places will still do that, others will only hand out the dreaded salvage title..
If you want to swap out the roof and rear seat area, and rework the quarter panel tops, you had better be an ace welder/body man or its gonna be a friendly car that attracts surfers... ie waves

it has been done. The guy who did my quarter panels on my car, did a 66 coupe to fastback conversion about 2 yerars ago. He brought it up to steamboat springs and was shown in mustang montly...ill let you know what issue, however it was done ver y nicely......

Well, there you have it. The opinion of someone who knows someone who did it once.

haha, well how many times does the dude gota do it to know??
we chat allthe time, ill hit him up and see whatt the damage was!!
THe best way to do it would be similiar to the referred site. I'd recommend finding a donor car and cutting out what you need rather than fabbing metal together as your measurements may be off and the structure can not be as sturdy.
It wouldn't be to complex to do, but would take a LOT of work--mainly drilling out spot welds and welding things and grinding..which take time.

I noticed this thread died off...
I just spoke with the guys at Bob's Ford on the west coast and they're doing a 65 fastback conversion.
They actually suggested that I consider the same thing for my project rather than buying and installing all the replacement panels. Some folks in this thread promised pics and such. I'd love to see more pics of a conversion if anyone has some.
By the way, someone mentioned a fiberglass shell. DHR (Dark Horse Racing) owns the tooling. DHR and USBody sell the part. About $3200. But DHR recommends against street use. It would require extensive work to bond to a stock chassis and would not be structurally fit for street use (i.e. it's not designed as a structural component and requires a full inner roll cage for safety). You also cannot use any of the stock steel parts on it (doors, decklid, etc...) without building the inner skeleton and attachment points. It's a cool idea for sure...but it's not realistic. At least not until someone figures out a way to build an appropriate chassis for it.

IMO, it's a waste of time and a waste of a car. if you were to do that i would have to lump you into the same catagory as the bung holes who decided it was a good idea to smash up a bunch of FB's for a F&F movie.

okay a coupe is a coupe and a FB is a FB. no two ways about it. as mentioned before your title will say coupe. if you cna get your hands on a fastback with a rusted undercarrage, you will have an easier job replacing the floor pans that cutting the old top off and welding the new one in.

...and the clone guys. It can be done but that doesn't mean you should do it. How much bodywork experience do you have?

personally i find it to be wasteful of a classic vehicle to do something like that. it like hollywood destroying cars for no reason.
