I really think you should stick with a 500-550. Even a 289, with 100% air/volume effiecienty only needs in the high 400's. Here is a calculator for determining CFM.

I built a Falcon with a 5.0 and 5 speed a few years back. He bought a 650 Demon, Love it, Been driving it for 4 years now getting 21 miles per gallon. The engine will only draw in as much air as it can. You will be fine. Fastbackguys 66 has a 670 Street Avenger on it and he loves it. Great perfomance and mileage.

I noticed that tire size, gears, and stall conv. affect this......when all is said and done I plan on having 245/40/17's all the way around, a 2800 stall conv., and prob 3.25 gears. I'm not sure what effect this will have. Anybody know??????

I see your point...I guess I should do a little more research before I go flapping my lips. I read that 1800-2200 is closer for a mild 289. What do you think?

yeah, I wouldn't go over 2200. I believe that is what is in my impala, but im not sure. 1800 would probably be perfect for your ar though. AS long as it is not a real bad idle.
