Default gas

Sorry if this is redundant or retarted question:
How do you get all of the gas to go in when you pump it? I've got a 68 and everytime I try to fill it up with gas i get a lot spilling out, i was wondering if its my car or if its just because its old and the gas pumps are new.
thanks

...i was wondering if its my car...
No, it's actually quite commom - especially with the 67/68 models; and even more so when equipped with pop-open gas caps. I never had a problem with it (on my '66) until I installed a 1970 pop-open cap on it. I now need to turn the pump handle sideways to prevent overflow. You might want to give that a try.

once again another stupid reply to someones question....... elenor you need to relize that some people actually have problems that they need solved, if we needed the town jester we would ask ron white or someone.

But to answer the question, i agree with dan, 67-70 (imo) have the hardest tanks to fill because the taillight panels are concaved, so doing what dan said will help quite a bit, thats what i have to do. Just imagine having a fairlane, they have the gas filler behing the license plate under the bumper, if you park on a steep hill all the gas goes down with it

try pumping at a slower speed....if you pump at full pressure it will almost always spill out

Not a stupid question at all. In fact, I've filled up my "new" '67 just twice, but got gas ALL OVER THE PLACE both times. I was starting to wonder about this myself. Thanks for asking the question, now I know what to do too!!!

What others here have said about turning the gas pump sideways and pump the gas in slowly. Works like a charm and you get no spillage. Good questions fifi....
