Default 66 codes

I've just purchased a 66 coupe and it has the tag for the vin #, but the door has been changed. The tag shows a 289, but this has a 200cid. It also looks like the left front fender has been replaced. Anywhere else I could get the codes to see what the original paint, etc. should have been on this car? Thanks for any help!!

Hmm, I believe those are the only two places that the vin number is located. I believe you are SOL.

Check in the trunk (under the mat) or inside under the carpet for the original color. As for the interior color, usually under the dashpad (after you've removed it) is untouched. Unfortunately, without that door tag you may never know all the specifics. Who knows though - you may get lucky and find the build sheet somewhere!

Thanks! I'll keep looking. I've heard build sheets may be in the seats? Is this true?
