Default Installing disc brakes today

Hey all,

I'm upgrading my front drums to power disc brakes today/tomorrow. Any tips or precautions I should look out for? I have the A-121P kit from SSBC and it looks like I have everything I need.

You probably have installation instructions with the new kit, but you might want to do some more reading ahead of time to get a better idea of what you are facing and how to deal with it. Although this info relates to the Granada swap, it will still give you a better picture of what you will be doing. http://www.granadaswap.com/guide/PART6.htm

Dawtips,

I'll be starting my brakes tomrrow, also from SSBC. Please post any advise or problems you encounter.

I did the same thing to my car minus the vacuum assists.

Once I found the instruction booklet it took about 15 min per side to change from drum to disk and about an hour or more trying to convince the high pressure brake line to screw into the distribution block and purporting valve.

an like 30 min getting the new brake master cylinder thingy in.

I had no issues but I dont know what challenges the vac assist might give you.

It went pretty successfully. The brake lines they have in the kit have fittings that didn't exactly work for some reason. I was able to find the right fittings at an autoparts store and used the old brake lines instead (let me know if you have questions about this). That was the only stopping block, if everything fit I would say the installation would have taken a couple hours. Another interesting thing I found was that the brake pads kind of "float" inside the caliper instead of having a spring-back design. That didn't affect anything and I drove the car over 50 miles on the freeway with no problem.

My replacement isn't going quite as fast, but no problems as of yet. Not due a lack of skill, but to a lack of time.

Did you notice a difference in braking when you drove it? My kit DOESN'T have vacuum assist, but I'm hoping for more braking power with less braking effort once the kit is installed.

I do notice a difference braking, it is more consistent, smoother, straighter and just feels damn better. Just to note I did have power drums before.
