Default 66 Stalls When Stopping

Hi [sm=smiley16.gif]

I took my 1966 Mustang out for a drive the other day and within about 10 minutes, it began stalling at stop signs - the only way to keep it going was to press on the gas slightly. I did a search here and found similar symptons to an explanation given for an EGR valve not working. Could someone please point out on the images where the EGR valve is? Thanks.

Welcome to the classic section of MF. The EGR valves were introduced by GM back in 1972, so you can rest assured you don't have an EGR valve. The EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Exhaust gas is routed back into the combustion chamber because the exhausted air is much hotter than the intake air (try touching a muffler sometime). By sending warmer gas into the combustion chamber, the air/fuel mix does not have to do as much work. It may be your PCV valve you are referring to.
It sounds as if you need a general tune-up to include replacing the PCV (Positive Crank Ventilation) valve and adjusting the idle mixture screws on your carb, then idle it up a tad.

Yeah no EGR on a 66 tht is for sho...

Additionally what engine, trans, carb? Has it been modified with intake headers, cam etc? Soarings suggestion is a great place to start while you get back to us on the rest.

Sounds like a low idle to me.................. Mine did the same thing to me, once it warmed up, it'd cut off at stops.

Could also be a clogged fuel filter or a vacuum leak.

Oops!

289 4 barrel 2 sp. CruiseMatic all stock.

Just changed the fuel filter but that didn't help. I was also tweaking the idle speed but that didn't seem to work. It happened suddenly after running very well. It also takes longer for it to kick out of high idle after starting cold and when it finally does, it stalls.
