Too much rust? what do you think?
floorpans are not that expensive, just as long as the frame isnt rusted through, im not that worried, im speaking with the guy tomarrow so i can go and check it out in person and maybe buy it and U-haul it home.
It depends on where in Texas it has been all its' life, but generally, Texas cars are rust free as such. Take a ball peen hammer with you and crawl up underneath and whack the hell out of the frame rails. They rust out from the inside, but if you get a ping and not a thud, then they are good to go. Where in Texas is this car located? If close to me, I will meet you there, and we can pour some LoneStar beer on it to christen it.
Let's not forget that this car has a Detroit history. I'm not being critical for the sake of being critical BUT I'll bet that a close inspection will reveal rust issues well beyond the simple rusty floor pan. If that is truly the only hole, you are in luck. BUT... since I can clearly see galvanized tin from a previous hack repair job, my money says it isn't. PLEASE, whatever you do...take an EXPERIENCED bodyman or Mustang enthusiast with you. 2000.00 is not a lot of money for a Mustang that you can ride and drive. It is a ton of money for a polished turd with shiny paint. I'd certainly hate to see a young enthusiast soured on the old car hobby because he took a beating on his first investment. Please use good judgement and always keep your guard up. Lastly, the lowly advertising magnet can be your best friend. Most pizza places give away business card size refrigerator magnets with their advertising on them. Take a similar type magnet with you to look at the car. If you find places on the car that it won't stick, that's a clue. Dean
While I agree that most rust can be repaired/replaced... I do not agree that all rusty Mustangs are financially viable projects. Sure you can buy every part of that particular car, but if it costs you $ 20,000.00 to restore it, is it a good investment ? That's a decision this young man will have to make. I'm simply encouraging him to proceed with caution. There's a reason this car has been sitting untouched for years and it doesn't exactly look too well hidden from view. Hell I could spot that car from a roadway half a mile away , with the sun in my eyes at 70 mph , shifting gears , dialing my cell phone , changing CD's and picking my nose. Either I'm awful damned good at mutli tasking or that car is clearly visible.

im going to check it before i buy, but if i do, i definently have the time now since my school stuck me on the worst probation i can get and banned me from all school activities, and money isnt too much of a problem. im hoping it will turn out good and i have something to do.

that car looks to be in decent shape other than the floor. thats an easy fix though. just check everything with a magnet and hammer like they have all said.
