Electrical short problem
I have a 72 Coupe that has some electrical issues. The wires look like they were hacked up pretty good by a
previous owner. If I have the head lights on, all the lights work ok but the turn signals barely flash if at all. With the lights off, the left turn signal works ok but when I turn on the right turn flasher, the right side lights flash but the left lights also flash but are very dimm. Also the battery gets drained if I leave it hooked up over night. I am charging up the battery now and will hook up a little light to the battery connection and will start pulling fuses to isolate the draining problem tommorow. Has anyone had a problem like this before??
Everytime I check the wiring I find more loose wires that are not hooked up to anything. I probably should pull all the wires and start from scratch but I really don't want to if I can get away with the existing mess.
Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Your symptoms are typical of a bad ground. Make sure the motor and the body at the firewall are both grounded well. Do 72s have the ground wire from the pass. head to the firewall? Scrape and clean under the terminals on the ground wires. After that, you may have to check each circuit for a good ground. If necessary, get a wiring diagram and work thru the problems one at a time. A bad ground won't drain a battery, but it looks like you know how to trouble shoot that problem.
