Default I need a new roof

Ok, this is kinda complicated but, Originally my 66coupe had a vinyl top on it. The vinyl got holes in it and it caused the roof to rust out pretty bad. I have my mustang stripped dow about all the way and ive noticed that the roof is welded on to the main body structer at each corner. My question is, How hard would it be to cut these welds and take the roof off, Then get a junk car with a good roof and weld the good roof onto my car?

I dont think it would be to difficult but i would have to support the car really good before i start cutting. What do yall think?

Very possible, but like you said, just be careful to support the car really well before you cut off the old roof. You would have to weld some "X" bracing across the door jambs. The hardest part to consider is that when you cut off the old one you will possibly be cutting outer and inner panels, like in the "A" pillars, and to put the new roof on correctly, you would have to remove a section of the outer panel so you can weld the inner back together, then weld the outer section back on. Good luck....better you then me.

I'm pretty sure there are roof skins out there. That would be the easiest. That way you are not messing with the structure of the car. Best left to a good body shop though. You have to get into the lead joints at the quarter panels to do it right. You can get the skin from a parts car but the time it takes to get the old skin off and cleaned up to install makes it easier to pay the money for a new skin.

Ok, I did some looking and all I can find are 67-68 fastback roof panels. I swear I have seen them before but I could be wrong.

Contact this guy to see if he will give you his advice on how he replaced his roof.

You can replace the roof like that but I have done them like that I'm telling you it is a lot of work. This kind of job is not for the weekend mechanic. That is not a slam of your skill level. If done incorrectly it can be dangerous. I good body man can handle it with no problem. Sorry I couldn't find the skin for you . I will keep looking.
