GENUINE BOSS 302 CARBURETOR
The Vette carb is a Holley also. As for the much maligned Quadra-Jet carbs... they are not really as bad as most people think. There are two simple factors which make them difficult to tune and inconsistent. The secondary metering wells tend to leak and should be epoxied periodically and the pump storke linkage gets sloppy causing the "bog" that so many people hate so much. Other than that they are very dependable. I've built literally thousands of carburetors and I think maybe the Ford 4350 Motorcraft carb is the most difficult to tune and the most tempermental. Even the Thermoquad is easier to build and tune ! Dean
Autolites are good carbs though, weve got the Autolite 2-barrel (300-cfm?) on our 1965 mustang 289 it runs like a 4-bbl!! Response is terrific, and gets 20 mpg!! its awesome, i havnt had to much experience with the 4-bbl, we have one but i dont have anything to put it on
The Autolite 2 barrels are indeed very dependable as are the Holley variations. Believe it or not though Ford did use a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor for 2 model years. Care to guess what years and applications ?
I have a quadajet on my impala at the moment. Very good carburator. It has been much more dependeable then these carters we were buying, but I think It was a too big of a carburator. We was literally changing out the carbs all the time, since they had a lifetime warrenty.
Send me the numbers off of about any Rochester Quadrajet prior to 84 and I can decode it for you. They range from about 650 CFM all the way up to 850 CFM. I've heard of bigger but I've never seen one. Dean
