mach 1 with a 302
They did put the 302 in the Mach 1. It even came with a two barrel carb. Don't have any pictures, but it must have been a pretty lonely place for the 302 in a big old engine compartment like that!

Did the 302's ever come with the valve covers that said "power ford" or "ford power"?

There were 302 valve covers with "powered by Ford" on them, but I don't know it they came in the Mach 1 that way. Can't find any pictures to say yes or no.
Amazing with all the books I have, and all the information out on the web, you'd think there would be plenty of pictures. Someones got to have one, somewhere.

The 71-73 Mustangs ( including Mach 1's ) did indeed come with the 302 2 barrels. They were not available with 302 4 barrels. Their valve covers were stamped steel, painted blue and imprinted with the Ford and Power by Ford logos. They were never aluminum on the 302 lineup from 71-73. Your fifth digit in the VIN will be an F designating 302 2V. Hope this helps, Dean
