Spring Questions... bounce bounce
I want 1 inch drop springs for my mustang to go with my global west control arms, and now that the drivers side floor is done, its on to the front end.
The car came with some new stock V8 springs from mustangs unlimited, i'll have to check the number, but they are the stiffest.
What I need to know is if the mustang springs are more progressivly wound or normal. Will i ruin the ride by cutting them, or if i should just save up for the drop coils, because I know from expereince some drop springs are just less coils, but the same wire.
Also, what is the difference in the weight between the I6 and a 302? I don't want to change the springs twice and the I6 is going to keep my rolling while I rebuild the V8.

oh i know that, while i put it back together i'm collectiing parts to do it... have versaille spindles and disc brakes, dual bowl master cylinder, 8 inch rear end, t5 in pieces, extra driveshaft and V8 yoke needing to be made from 51" to 52" for the 8", the 302 of course...lol
and i know there is the question on the steering with the V8... someday i'll buy a setup out of a V8, but i know the I6 will work for the short term.
but i guess i just don't want to do the same thing twice, like springs, although they are easy enough to swap out, i'd like to get the v8 setup in to begin with.

i guess i should ask the question in much simpler terms...lol
has anyone ever compared regualr coils to drop coils?
were there the same amount of windings?
was the space between the coils windings uniform?
was the space between the 2 coils windings the same just fewer coils on the drop spring?
was the wire the same thickness?

Put one inch drop maier racing springs on my 67. As I recall the number of coils was the same. The unloaded spring height was shorter and the wire size was fatter. The space between the coils was less while unloaded and they were not progressively wound (same spacing top to bottom)
