Default Transmission filter??

I purchased this new cast alum pan and it came with a new filter. This filter was no way the correct one. It looks like it was a deeper reaching into the pan filter. Can I use a stock filter with this pan? This pan holds two additional qts of fluid. I have attached some pics.

The first pic is of the pan and filter I just got. The next pic is the filter thats in my tranny and as you can see, there not the same. Not sure what tranny thats for but, it not for mine. It looks like its for a C4 that was produced after 1970..

The new pan and filter you have is for a 70+ C4. The filter from you car is for an early built C4 which is different. With your deep pan you need to use a deep filter also. I think the late model pan should work if it has the same bolt pattern and I would say an early Bronco C4 4x4 filter is a deep style which should work with that pan.

You can use a stock shallow filter with the deep pan, no problem but you won't get any benefit from having a deep pan. I think I would put the old pan on and sell the deep pan on eBay.

From what I have found out, they do not make a deep pan filter for the C4's dated prior to 1970.. So, it looks like I'm stuck with using the OEM filter. Oh well, I have more fluid with better cooling with the new pan.
