71 rear spoiler
Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew if ford ever put a rear spoiler on a 1971 that was adjustable. The one on my car has a hex head bolt that lets you change the angle. I was just wondering if this is just an aftermarket add on or not. It appears to be an original spoiler, i'm just a little undereducated about the mounts.
thanks guys

If your car is a fastback sportsroof body style, including the Mach 1... it was available as a factory option. If your car is a coupe, Grande or convertible it was not an available factory option. They look very similar to the 69-70 Mustang spoilers but they are very different. These spoilers are very desirable if they are original Ford and as long as they aren't broken or sagging they bring good money. They were adjustable using a 5/64ths allen head wrench and the pedestals were 33 inches apart center to center. The bottom flange of the pedestal will bear a D1ZZ part number but the spoiler itself has no part number on it at all. You won't be able to see the part number on the flange unless you remove it from the deck. Hope this helps, Dean

k, i took the spoiler off
on the bottom of the pedestals it says D1ZB-6344226 AWA
part number is the same on both pedestals, no numbers on the spoiler itself.
it's in great condition, with only some crappy spray bomb paint chipping off of it. there's on little "dent in the front edge of it, but it's not even through the fiberglass.....you probably wouldn't notice it if i didn't point it out....like if it was on a car, i don't think you'd ever see it.
any ideas on what it's worth??

There are a number of criteria which will determine its' value. The pedestal flanges are prone to bend at the base because people often use the spoiler as a handle when shutting the deck lid. It causes the bases to become convex and they "rock" instead of fitting flush as intended. ( judging by your photo, I'd say yours are also bent.) The screws which hold the spoiler to the pedestals are prone to rot or pulling out. There are a pair of small plates which go on the inside of the deck lid to keep the mounting nuts from denting the deck lid surface. They are just an added strengthening device but they are important. The spoilers often sag in the middle and split on the edges where the top and bottom pieces are glued together. Last but not least, reproductions are now available which significantly effects the value of the originals. With all things being considered, it's worth between 100.00 and 300.00 depending on condition, flaws and the individual buyers need/desire for an original Ford component. As a side note, the springs on the factory spoiler deck lids are unique to the spoilered deck lids. They are stronger so as to hold the deck lid open with the added weight of the spoiler being considered. Believe it or not the springs are harder to find than the spoiler assembly. If your deck lid stays up when released and doesn't fall down easily, they are probably correct for the factory rear spoiler. Let me know if you want to get rid of it and I'd be interested. Hope this helps, Dean
