HELP REPLACING FIREWALL AND ENTIRE FLOOR!
hey everyone, this is my problem, ive taken out the entire floor of my 66 coupe and im about to replace the firewall as well, ive posted on another board that i plan to do this and they said all i had to do was support the subframe, if i weld the bar in on the attached picture will this be sufficient? if not, please help me
that looks like it should hold it pretty snugly. while your that deep into the car you may want to add a torque box to the pass. side. you will be surprised by how much the frame moves with the firewall and everything out of there.
good luck,
carl
good luck,
carl
I say the more bracing you can put in, the better, as long as it doesn't get in the way of what you need to do. You'd be surprised at how much support the car loses without the floor in it, and if you weld in the new one with the car sagging even just a little bit, good luck making everything else line up. I would get my hands on a copy of the chassis dimensions before you weld anything, and check your rails, now's the time do do it to make sure nothing moved yet. I have a friend doing a '65 that has dimensions from two different sources, if you want me to see if he can scan them, and e-mail them to me, let me know.

good idea, where did your friend get the dimensions from? becuase ive got a 66 and the 65 dimensions would be different, wouldnt they? so if you could tell me where he got the dimensions from that'd be great. thx
I'm working on it for you man, I have an e-mail to my friend with the dimensions, if he can get access to a scanner, we sould be all set. Hopefully he'll get back to me soon. I'll keep you posted. By the way, did you get one of those fancy "full floors"? Those are pretty nice, the ones I've seen seem to have more crisp, factory look stamping.
