Default Fender/Quarter Panel Replacement

Hey whats up all? This the 66 Rustang checking in. We have been searching around for new sheet metal parts for the rustang. Any thoughts on the best place to find new sheet metal for the project? Also looking for new hood and trunk. Both Val and I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

Tons of vendors out there carrying sheet metal, as listed in previous reply. Word of caution though - not all the stuff is the same quality. I know well having been there. Bear in mind most of the parts are "reproductions" being banged out in Taiwan or other asian countries. Some are not too bad, others are atrocious. For things like front fenders, look for Ford Tooling, American made. Costs more but worth it. But even those are not the same gauge steel as original. I got a "reproduction" trunk lid for my '65 fastback and me and my resto shop owner agreed it fit miserably. Went to eBay and found a very nice original Ford fastback trunk lid for less then a new reproduction. For some parts, eBay is an excellent shopping place.

My right rear quarter skin and left rear full quarter panel came from Mustangs Unlimited and are quality items. So search well, ask questions and don't be surprised if you receive an item you will want to send back - keep your receipts, lol.

Good luck on your project.

What about suspension components, anything attached to the frame basically disc brake conversion kits, sway bars, etc.?

Hey Rustang,
I just did floors, torque boxes, frame rail, trunk floor, rear quarters/outer wheelhouses, tailight panel, and part of my front cowl.
I like the sheet metal from Mustangs Unlimited. They have a website and have locations in CT and Georgia. I have decided to replace my front radiator support, I'll be calling them. Buy yourself a small MIG, maybe a Lincoln SP110, good machine. But make sure it is gas, flux core machines are not as good on thin rusty metal. I went through all the trouble because my car has factory AC, shaker, slats, 4 speed, and many other crazy options and is also yellow, another bonus. Just make sure you aren't putting in alot of work into something that will not bring the big bucks. It's cheaper to pay more on the onset for a solid car. Disregard if you have an original, fastback, CJ car, Boss car, Mach I or GT model. Also, 71' and newer don't bring the bucks, I personally don't like the body style, many buyers share the same opinion. I coulda picked up a 72 fastback for $400. bucks, decent car and passed on it.

Solid advice for sure. Thanks for the input on that website. Honestly, the car is in bad shape, body wise. The interior and the motor are in suprisingly good shape. Both my wife and I are set hard on the fact that it is never going to be for sale. This is a project car for the two of us. Nothing more.
