Default T-5 Anyone?

What's the cost to put a T-5 trans. in a classic? I see you cant get a new one under $1600 but i was wondering how much you guys have done it for or how cheap you think it could be done, with a new or used tranny. Thanks.

If you shop around a good used one should be ~$400 then rebuild if you want. Total cost depends on what you do. If you are using the original bellhousing; you will need an adaptor plate. You will also need a new x-member and clutch cable. You should check out www.moderndriveline.com Someone posted the link earlier and they have some very detailed info on the swap.

i dont think selling the 4 speed is an option, sorry. lol
having an overdrive gear will be nice after 60, since it turns about 3600 at 70mph

Default IMO, not the best choice in your case

I'd think twice about a T5 behind the 428. You might want to look into a TKO or a Richmond. The T5 is going to be a little light in the butt for that much brute torque, especially when you start adding things like heads and cams, etc.
Unless you go all out and build the crap out of the T5 there really isn't any one of them stock ( not even the T-5z) that is going to last, if you really start pushing it, and get some good hook up.

My thoughts would be to build the engine like you want, and when you are done, dyno it on a chassis dyno, then start saving up for the matching drivetrain.

Ya, you would dump the clutch once on that 428 and there would be a gearbox on one side of the road and a tailshaft on the other from that T5. They are only rated at 350 lbs/ft.
