Carpet on the garage floor
I need to have something my creepers will roll easily on. Nothing better than smooth clean concrete. Its rare I have to lay on the floor itself to do something. Its really difficult for me to get up and down, and especially to move around if I dont have wheels under me, so no carpet for me. Besides with the amount of work I have to do on the cars I restore, carpet wouldnt last past the teardown stage...
Yeah, I hear all that, and I agree. But, my cars don't leak anything, and this carpet is nice and flat without any underlayment, so a creeper rolls nicely. I still am looking into the lift, but until then, I kinda enjoy this carpet. I have an old vacuum cleaner that sucks all the dirt out. Beats sweeping.
My last two garages had indoor outdoor carpet. It was awesome! it has a tight enough weave that I could roll around on my creeper, or lay on my back. One had the carpet tile squares, and when a section got oily/greasy we'd just change that section. The other was almost a marine grade carpet and we'd just use a hot pressure washer to clean it.
Makes all the difference in the world when you are working out there in the winter. I have to refinish the garage floor in the garage where I am now. As soon as that is done, I will lay the same kind of carpet down.

I have often thought about carpet but even though I keep my shop pretty clean it is inevitable that you are going to spill something (oil, coolant, whatever) When I built my shop I sealed the concrete with Gray Epoxy concrete paint. It looked awseome originally but it gets marked easily - for some reason anything I have with black rubbr wheels leaves marks on the floor where it sits for extended periods.
I once saw a garage tiled with black and off white industrial quality tiling like you see in businesses or schools. It really seemed to wear well and was extremely durable. Liquids didn't penetrate and could be cleaned up easily. But if I tiled my shop my wife would freak out - she already refes to it as the "Taj Mahal."

That's alot nicer than the Taj Mahal it has a car hoist in it. lol
I didn't say I carpeted my pole barn. What I do is I go dumpster diving at a local carpet outlet & use large pieces where I need them. When they get old I toss them.

Thanks 1970mach1. I was thinking about a nice plush Stainmaster at about $35 a square yard. But the wife would tell me to get a commode too and a bed and live in the thing. The lift is my pride and joy... no crawling around on my hands and knees or creepers. Has made working on my car a dream.
