Noisy lifters. Need advice
The 351W I have in my 68 mustang is making a lot of tapping noise from its passenger side. I assume that this is a lifter or 2 that is not pumping up. The engine has enough oil pressure (40 to 50 psi), so I am assuming it is a clogged or sticky lifter.
Assuming the rest of the engine is in fairly good condition, do you think it would be worth pulling the intake manifold off and replacing some or all of the lifters? Or, is there a different path I should consider?

I think if it was mine I would pull the valve cover, put each cylinder on TDC and check your valve clearances. That is assuming the rockers are adjustable (don't know 351's that much). Also check all your valve springs and rockers visually for anything else unusual. Have you used a stethoscope (or even a long screwdriver to your ear) to try and isolate the noise?
id try dumping a half quart of tranny fluid in your motor usually the tapping will come right out and if it does just run it down the road a couple times and then change your oil. tranny fluid is a miracle fluid for that.

Thanks for the advice. Next chance I get, I will pull the valve cover off and inspect the valve train. If all looks good, I will try an oil additive before I disassemble anything else.
What is Mystery oil and where can I get it?
Thanks.
