Default Rare dash pieces?

Ok, I need the center dash piece on my 67 coupe and along time ago my dad told me they were hard to find. I was glancing on ebay and I found one so I figured Id try to get it. I looked in VirginiaMustangs mag to get a reference on the price and they make them for 12 bucks. So, this item had 6 days left and it was already up to 60 bucks with 8 shipping and 5 insurence to add too. He said it was because it was an original product in the box. He also said they generally sell for 70-80 bucks. If I remember right ,there are 5 peices to the dash. Are they really that hard to find and if so, why? I've seen a 67 at a local junkyard from a distance, I think Im gonna go check it out now for the piece I need and take the other peices to sell on ebay...Thanks

I can tell you that anything you find in the junk yard is going to be junk. What is wrong with using a repop?

I was just curious about why they cost so much and yes, Im going to get an aftermarket one. I checked out the one in my local yard and it was complete crap. Half that car is gone and the other half unsalvagable!

The more you get into this you will find that there are no good parts like that in the junk yards. If you find a good piece like that chances are it will be a repop from a totaled car that ended up in the junk yard. The pieces that you are asking about that are so expensive are usually NOS (New Old Stock) meaning that it is an orginal Ford piece that was never installed. The folks that are trying to put together concours type restorations really need these pieces so they can be all orginal. Us poor folks putting together restow mods don't need those high priced NOS parts.

Good timing for this topic--I just replaced all of my 67's original (very worn looking) dash parts including the instrument bezel and lenses today!! Took about 4 hours to do it all right, most of the time taking the guages etc out. I used aftermarket from NPD after toying for a while with the idea of using NOS, but some guy wants almost $400 bucks for the bezel alone on EBAY. I paid about a hundred for all pieces combined. Granted, the guy on Ebay's is brand new and original Ford, pretty rare stuff. But if you get the right aftermarket part these days, the only difference is the FOMOCO stamp on the back. Lets face it, a 67 Ford Mustang plastic dash bezel isn't exactly like replacing some old exotic German dash with real wood etc, its just a piece of painted plastic!!!! I guess if I had a real concourse car, that might be different, but the longer I own my car, the more non original stuff I find. What a huge difference replacing those old dash parts made, I'm sitting here looking at the old ones and they are literally gross. Next week, it s getting new carpet and seat upholstery and door panels. Don;t spend all that money on NOS plastic unless your car is literally perfectly original or you plan on making it that way. That'm my 2 cents anyways...even non original paint disqualifies it for using that NOS dash for almost a grand!!!!
