Default Re-wiring a '66 GT

Hello all!! I'm brand new to this site although I've owned this vintage Mustang for about 8 years. I want to replace every piece of the original harnesses. The rest of this car is in very good condition.

Have any of you completely re-wired a '65 or '66? If so, have you used Painless Wiring's complete harness, and is it really complete? Do you recommend their product, or do you feel something else is preferred?

Our car is a convertible with full gauges and Rallye Pac.

Do any of you have experiences or advice for me?

Thanks,
David Brown

My friend has used the painless one, its a good kit. Some advise, always do a 360 degree wiring job. This means dont assume the body will ground anything, always ground it seperately, you will save yerself alot of time and headaches down the road. Also make sure to use rubber grommets when going through the firewall or anything that could chafe the wiring.

Why?? Does something not work?? It would be easier to fix problems them redo everything. I have heard that painless is still hard and tedious

egh one of the first things i did. the underside of that dash is a mess. damn u ford for your electronics (and not water proofing the inside of the cowl). but ya its pricy, depends on if you doing just all interior like dash and stuff or ALL of it like engine wiring harnanesses.

but ya its not that hard, just a pain in the ***. just make sure u mark everything

I have done a '51 chevy pick-up and just finishing a '47 ford coupe. I used EZ-wiring in both these vehicles. Pretty much same as Painless, but little less pain in the wallet. all wires are labeled, colored or black. Not a big deal to me. time consuming, but considering we replaced all the wiring, i wouldn't expect it to be a 2hr job! In the '47, i tied it into the computer to run the mustang EFI 4.6L!

When I put my 65GT back together I replaced every harness in the car. Not hard if you understand basic electricity and know how to use a multimeter and read schematics. Worth every penny as the 40 year old wires were brittle and cracked. All the harnesses (underdash, engine feeds, tail lights etc) are commercially available - the under dash is the pricey one running about $360 if I remember correctly.
