I can see there is a definite separation in opinions on the subject of driving fast from the folks on this site. I love to drive fast and feel that I'm smart enough to know when it is reasonably safe to do so. I'm not going to do 100mph in a school zone. I'm also not going to do 100mph on a busy highway and weave in and out of traffic like I see a lot of the young rice drivers doing. I also will not get enticed into racing on the street either but if I'm by myself in the car on an open highway I will open it up. My question is this, there is a lot of talk on this site about horse power and building high HP engines. What does everyone think we are doing all of that for? If we just wanted to putter around doing the speed limit we could get by with '62 ramblers.

I live in rural north texas where it is flat and empty, so 120 is only cruising speed.
I grew up in Rural North Texas ( Aubrey - live in CO now ) and 120 in a vintage Mustang would have been insane on the hilly / windy highways. Here, it's all retirement folk so ya have to go BELOW posted limits! lol

hey fordfanboi,
what are the specs for your 408w? it sounds awesome. im in the process of building one for my 67' coupe. PM me if you want as to not steal the thread.

Slow drain back caused from 6k + extended RPM fills valve covers with excess oil which in turns seeps out anywhere it can. I bet your oil pressure dropped to less than 10-12 PSI but since you prob have the stock gauge you'll never know until you spin a bearing or 3 from oil starvation.

MAn, Im 17 and like to drive fast, and i wouldn't think of going that fast, except MAYBE on the highway, when there is no one else around. The hardest i pushed my car was alittle past 90, and it was revving pretty high(to me) and it has the 2.80 rear end in it.

I will say that the classic stangs are not really built for that kind of speed. You really have to build them right to get them to do that speed safely. My experiance going that fast is in an '89 t-bird super coupe. It will take that speed very easily.

my car is hard to handle at 70, but it's unbalenced, and out of alignment.

it was tranny fluid. and the cap wiggles a little bit when it fully shut so i think it came out of there but why would it build pressure like that?
